Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Back? Taking a break...taking a break...

Well, having finally returned after four long weeks, it seems to me the Forum has functioned quite well in my absence, and though never presumptious enough to imgaine I ever had anything to do with that, one way or another, I am just logging on to say that though I will be around, and certainly contribute my fair share (more, you say, no doubt) of "Facebook" moments, I think it time to recognize that I've probably contributed about all that's ever been worth saying hereabouts (ie, how many times can one write, much less read, something about 68 for crying out loud?).

So, no tearful goodbyes, no rants and raves about "it wasn't soon enough", but perhaps just a real big "thanks" from me to all of you for having put up with me this long, and esp to the handful (?!) of gals that never took my comments too seriously...

Fear not, I will be lurking, and certainly all of you I know off line--I think those contacts and relationships will continue and even expand, but I've realized my time here might just be done, might have run its natural course.

Hey, the Lakers won; and it was ugly, so, think of it as a perfect ending to my tenure here.

That's why I contribute so little here anymore... but I'm still glad the Forum is here.

Hey SCB--we had some great times, and I for one took especial note of your "decline" (ahem)...I think many of us have in fact done exactly this, and it's only because of my multitude of posts and perhaps ego that led me to think some sort of explanation was in order.

Still think of you as one of the good guys from the good ol days hereabouts!

Just a matter of time...I hate to say that "returning" I caught myself thinking I had to come up with something "good" to post about (DEAD related), and in the instant it struck me that it should never be "work" or anything close to it, and the "chit-chat", though tolerated by many, was more or less all I was up to hereabouts these days...helping folks now and again always felt good, but these past months I haven't seen a question or request posted that didn't receive more than adequate responses by the many other kind folks that are regulars now.

It's been a pleasure, Ring lee O; I have always been glad you stuck it out here...I'll pop in now and again to see how your going.

hmm, this is most certainly a surprise Tell; it's more normal when a poster decides to 'leave' the LMA GD forum, to go on the attack, rant about how all here are just losers, idiots, or somesuch, and how we just don't 'get it' or them, and then go on to say something along the lines of never coming back to this stink hole, evuh evuh again

and i was so hoping you'd hit 10K in postings by the end of the year, however, i (and i am sure many many others) must express thanks for the 9596 forum posts you've penned over the past 3 & 1/2 years

i salute you as a gentleman and a scholar!

Ian: I will always recall your great photos and kind spirit; you've graced this place like no other...we'll always have that 2 on 2 victory over Dire and Flow, if only in our fantasy league.

You take care--we've both been through a lot these past years, and I'll carry your love with me for the years to come, especially when I think of the Wicklow and the other beauties of our homeland.

Saint Stephen will remain
All he's lost he shall regain
Seashore washed by the suds and the foam
Been here so long he's got to calling it home

Fortune comes a-crawling, Calliope woman
Spinning that curious sense of your own
Can you answer? Yes I can
But what would be the answer to the answer man?

-----(William Tell Bridge)-----
High green chilly winds and windy vines in loops (note 3)
Around the twined shafts of lavender
They're crawling to the sun

Underfoot the ground is patched
With climbing arms of ivy wrapped
Around the manzanita stark and shiny in the breeze

Wonder who will water all the children of the garden
When they sigh about the barren lack
Of rain and droop so hungry 'neath the sky

William Tell has stretched his bow
Till it won't stretch no furthermore
And/or it will require a change that hasn't come before

Tell! You great drama queen!

If you think I’m going to queue up to sign your book of condolences think again, oh mighty slinger of the bolt. I make the fairly confident prediction that you’ll be totally unable to resist chiming in on some post or other that grabs your eye. This’ll be a longer farewell than Sinatra's - but you always did do it your way.

Meanwhile, as I assume the office of prime minister now lies vacant I shall begin working behind the scenes to appoint a successor.

Thanks Don & Rob...hmmm, thinking of the PM parallels, perhaps this is not unlike Winston's haitus post Gallipoli, with his triumphant return some decades later? Can't imagine us all still doing this at that distant time...you'll have to really screw things up to get me to come back though if we want this scenario "true to life".

Now that I think of it--it might not take that long.

I'm not sure the Prime Minister can resign so easily. I believe there is an arduous protocol that must be followed. After that, the resignation must be approved by a Quorum of Forumites. So Sir, before you can slip out the back door, you will be required ot submit, in triplicate, a formal letter of resignation. Once that is done, the process can continue. Until then, I guess you're just stuck with the Prime Minister-ship of this place.

BTW...good to have you back in "The States".

Sure, J--thanks; you too, HFlow (got your email as well)...boy, do I ever have more time on my hands having stepped down as PM--never realized how much effort it took commenting on spats between tito and kochman, or Dire and Bessie (much less discussions about fallacies of vegans, WWII, Churchill, etc), and with the decline of those sorts of Forum antics, I just don't see the need for it, eh? Besides, I felt like I'd said "it" all before, and then three times more for good (?) effect, so I am sure the place is the better for the new found reduction in redundancy, right?

I do miss chatting with you guys bout sports, fishing and the weather, raising our kids and the like...I will be sure to check in more often in a few weeks after I settle in with my new friends at the CREAM Forum I found...don't let Rob find out, but there they really do think Jack Bruce is God, and the whole "holy trinity" thing works much better with a three man band...

Take care J; keep up the good work with those four future forumites (har)!

No worries--I only "visit" via the Yahoo prompts, so I am completely unaware of any discussions about replacing me (that seems utterly unnecessary--why bother?!), though am once again touched that I keep getting "press" if that's what you are implying...I will say that BD's defn one of the good guys here--I would trust him and any plan he develops without question if I were you. I always loved his acerbic wit (eg, note the "JHC" comment above; he probably used it recalling how I love it since it was the most common phrase my dear old man used when flying off the handle...on the other hand, he just might be happy I am not here talking up the Lakers instead of Carolina teams).

Take care kid (at least I always assumed you were a youngster, and to be sure, I use that term with affection); sorry about your celtics.

Tell,
You've always been a class act around here- trying to be the peacemaker, breaking up all the arguments with Cliff, offering your scientific views on religion or global warming, why 2 shows from 1968 deserve repeated listening, et al. Even though we probably disagree on almost all of these I can say if more people could debate the issues as honestly and courteously as you, the world would be a better place.

Oh well, there's always golf-it sure beats sitting around a computer all day! (that's why I'm not around here most of the time). I'm sure we'll see you around again.
